JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Hospital Based Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is a strategic clinical leader responsible for advancing strategic integration, operational excellence, and professional development of APPs practicing in Eskenazi Health inpatient and outpatient hospital settings including surgical suites, hospital units, and specialty clinics.  This individual develops, implements and maintains comprehensive operational support and supervision structures for APPs within their assigned scope of responsibility. The Director works in close partnership with Eskenazi Health medical directors, service chiefs, nursing leadership, and operational teams to support high-performing care delivery teams that align with the organizational mission and vision by providing equitable, high-quality, and sustainable clinical care. Critical components of success in this role are collaboration with the hospital and specialty clinic CMOs, service chiefs and nursing directors to ensure consistency, equity, and professional development across the APP workforce and to ensure that APPs are practicing to the full extent of their license and within their scope of practice, as defined by the pertinent governing bodies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assure appropriate supervision, operational support, workforce planning, and performance management for APPs practicing in hospital settings.
• May directly or indirectly supervise APP team leads or other designated individuals.
• Serve as a key voice and advocate for APPs, helping to align APP roles with organizational goals around access, quality, and care coordination.
• Partner with operational and clinical leaders to define clinical scope of practice, resource needs, onboarding standards, orientation, and mentoring for APPs across hospital-based settings.
• Collaborate with Eskenazi Medical Group to align recruitment, credentialing, privileging, and compensation practices with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives related to APP utilization, team-based care models, and care delivery efficiency.
• Ensure APPs receive training and support related to documentation, billing, coding, and regulatory compliance.
• Foster a culture of team-based care by working closely with physicians, nursing, and administrative leaders.
• Promote consistency in performance expectations, professional development, and evaluation across all hospital-based APP roles.
• Facilitate conflict resolution and support performance coaching for APPs and their supervisors.
• Serve as a liaison to external academic, community, and professional partners to elevate the visibility and leadership of APPs in the region.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and career advancement.
• Serve as the expert resource regarding APP licensure, collaborative practice, credentialing, scope of practice, and regulatory compliance.
• Support APP student placement and clinical hour fulfillment in collaboration with academic partners.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduation from an accredited school with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), or other equivalent advanced practice provider degree.
• Current Indiana license as an APRN Prescriptive Authority, APRN Compact RN, Physician Assistant, or other equivalent professional license
• Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical experience as an APP, preferably in hospital settings.
• Demonstrated progressive experience in APP leadership, team management, or program development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in health administration, public health, business administration, or equivalent.
• Certification in quality improvement, leadership, or healthcare management.
• Experience in safety net, FQHC, or behavioral health care settings.
• Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other quality improvement methodologies.
• Prior involvement in APP education or training programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated humility, strong work ethic, and emotional intelligence.
• Deep understanding of ambulatory clinical workflows, billing, coding, and quality metrics.
• Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
• Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and build consensus across diverse roles.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects across departments

RESPONSIBILITY:

• Maintains patient and family confidentiality.
• Maintains protected health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy guidelines and regulations.
• Directly supervise APP team leads as designated.
