The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - Vascular/Thoracic Surgery works as an educator, advocate and care provider and is responsible for the care and well-being of patients in the vascular/thoracic surgery outpatient clinic, perioperative, and inpatient services.
• Consistent service line-focused coordination of care, throughout multiple phases
• Collaborate with healthcare team to implement treatment plan, including daily rounds with residents and staff
• Review, triage, and support clinic
• Lung Cancer Screening Program
• Obtain/update consent, history and physical, surgical site marking, pre-operative labs and medications for surgical patients both inpatient and morning admission
• Screen surgery patients, focusing on determination of treatment, qualification for a clinical protocol, and optimal disposition
• Assist in the operating room
• Consistent resource for rotating surgical residents
• Remove chest tubes and drains as indicated
• Available contact person and resource, including but not limited to respond to calls, perform consultations, maintain surgeons’ schedules, and sales representatives
• Complete FMLA/disability documentation and peer-to-peer review
• Develop, implement, and update education materials
• Attend, contribute, and present in Tumor Board and Multidisciplinary Case Conferences
• Community engagement via professional organizations and committee involvement
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science degree
Current Indiana license, Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Registration
