Overview

The Newborn Nursery APRN will report to the Newborn Nursery Medical Director. Newborn Nursery APRN will provide clinical care for newborn patients admitted to the Eskenazi Hospital Newborn Nursery. The APRN plans, directs, and evaluates patient's health care at EMG venues. The APRN provides diagnostic as well as therapeutic intervention and evaluation, including diagnostic and pharmacologic intervention. Performs or orders elected laboratory testing, referral to physician as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. The APRN will interact with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as appropriate, to provide optimal clinical care.

 

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Performs in a manner to create and sustain a positive work culture with cross-department collaboration and in alignment with Eskenazi Health and Eskenazi Medical Group initiatives

• Provide assessment, diagnostic determination, ongoing clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning, therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment and determination as appropriate for discharge or transfer of patients

• Collaboration, communication and coordination with all physicians, advanced practice providers and healthcare personnel caring for hospitalized patients

• Perform bedside rounds on all patients (either with team members or independently) on all assigned patients

• Participates in quality improvement review on a periodic basis, including systematic review of records and treatment plans, helps disseminate findings and implement plans for improvement

• Serves as an educational resource for other EMG staff

• Identifies opportunities to clinically collaborate with department physicians or specialty consultants as needed

• Strives for improved patient care focusing on positive outcomes and cost effectiveness through the five primary roles of expert clinician, consultant, educator, researcher and leader

• Maintains a flexible schedule to meet the need of patients, staff and system

• Completes patient discharge summaries within expected timeframes

• Completes all medical record documentation and billing submissions within one business day of service

• Provide direct contact, education and consultation with patient's family members, friends, advocates, and relevant others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans and to encourage and support a patient-centered and family-friendly style within the hospital environment

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENT, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

 

• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with a diversity of personalities. Must be approachable, show respect for others and be able to present data with effective communication and presentation skills

• Must have the ability to develop flexible, transferable models for pathways of care

• Actively demonstrates leadership and a mature sense of priorities and solid practical experience who can design and implement systems within the framework of technical boundaries

• Performs as a strong team player who builds consensus and promotes the concepts of people working together versus individual performance

• Possesses a high degree of mental effort, concentration and accuracy

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science or Doctor of Nursing Practice
Current Certification as FNP or PNP
Current Indiana license as a Registered Advanced Practice Nurse or current registration with another state Board of Nursing followed by immediate registration with the Indiana Board of Nurse Examiners for license endorsement Current Board certification as an APRN Nurse Practitioner
Collaborative agreement with affiliated physician group
Hold Prescriptive Authority according to the Indiana statute and institutional guidelines
Current Indiana controlled substance and Drug Enforcement Registration
Acute care and/or critical care experience. Basic Life Support certification required, ACLS preferred
