JOB SUMMARY:


The Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will report to the Hospitalist, Medical Director. Hospitalist APPs are engaged in managing the clinical problems of acutely ill, hospitalized patients.


Hospitalist APPs will provide clinical care for patients admitted at Eskenazi Hospital, support surgical and specialty services through consultative general internal medicine practice. The APP plans, directs, and evaluates patient's health care at EMG venues. The APP provides diagnostic as well as therapeutic intervention and evaluation, including diagnostic and pharmacologic intervention. Perform or orders elected laboratory testing, referral to physician as needed, write prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise protocols and available equipment. Works with physician in the care and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Responsibilities
• Performs in a manner to create and sustain a positive work culture with cross-department collaboration and in alignment with Eskenazi Health and Eskenazi Medical Group initiatives
• Provide assessment, diagnostic determination, ongoing clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning, therapeutic orders, risk assessment, and determination as appropriate for discharge or transfer of patients
• Collaboration, communication and coordination with all physicians, advanced practice providers and healthcare personnel caring for hospitalized patients
• Provide cross-coverage on hospitalized patients being cared for by EMG hospital medicine.

• Complete admissions for patients requiring hospital admission (inpatient and observation statuses). 

• Perform daily bedside rounds on assigned patients if assigned to daytime team coverage. 
• Participates in quality improvement review on a periodic basis, including systematic review of records and treatment plans, helps disseminate findings and implement plans for improvement.
• Provides patient education verbally and in writing as applicable to patients and family members about their diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Serves as an educational resource for other EMG staff.
• Identifies opportunities to clinically collaborate with department physicians or specialty consultants as needed
• Strives for improved patient care focusing on positive outcomes and cost effectiveness through the five primary roles of expert clinician, consultant, educator, researcher and leader
• Maintains a flexible schedule to meet the need of patients, staff and system
• Completes medical records within designated time periods.

SCOPE OF EMPLOYMENT - AVAILABLE POSITION STRUCTURE:

• Daytime, evening, nocturnal and combined positions available

• Part-time and Full-time positions available

• Nocturnal Position

            • 10 shifts per 28-day block (full-time)

            • 12-hour shift (5p-5a or 7p-7a)

            • Cross-coverage, admitting duties

            • Working alongside of physician colleagues

• Daytime Position            

            • Roles include rounding, cross-coverage, admitting/discharging of hospitalized patients

            • 14 days per 28-day block (full-time)

            • Variable positions considered for development

•Block allow for variety, rotation

 

 

ASSOCIATED JOB DUTIES:
• Maintains patient and family confidentiality
• Maintains protected health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy guidelines and regulations
• Maintain compliance with Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Medical Group, and other bylaws and compliance.
• Collaborate with staff of affiliated institutional facilities to provide appropriate care for patient
• Maintains competency in area of expertise
• Performs other job related duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science degree

Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program
Current Indiana license as a Registered Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant (or current registration with another state’s credentialing board; followed by immediate registration with the Indiana Board for designated licensure)

Current Board certification as an Advanced Practice Provider or Physician Assistant 
Collaborative agreement with affiliated physician group
Hold Prescriptive Authority according to the Indiana statute and institutional guidelines
Current Indiana controlled substance and Drug Enforcement Registration
Acute care and/or critical care experience Basic Life Support certification required, ACLS preferred
